A shout-out to Cynthia Pancerzewski for sending us a Facebook link to a photo album of Hannah P. Jacobson (later Rasmussen), a schoolteacher in Langley about 1914.

We love it when people share photos of South Whidbey with us!

In February of 2015, I was contacted by John from Tacoma asking if I was related to Hannah Jacobson. He ran a Google search and her name was listed on my family tree as my grand-aunt.

John, who makes his living buying and selling vintage items, wrote that he was at a Goodwill Store in Tacoma when he ran across a photo album full of pictures taken between 1910-1915 taken by Hannah Jacobson and family. These are pictures of life in Puget Sound around the turn of the 20th century.

Hannah Jacobson was married to Harry Rasmussen in 1927. Harry was my Grandma’s Uncle. Based on what my Grandma told me Hannah was a school teacher in Langley, Washington for a while and mentioned after Hannah passed away in the late seventies, a lawyer stepped in and sold off all her possessions without any consideration from the family. These photos literally floated around Puget Sound for 42 some odd years, sitting in someone’s basement or god knows where only to resurface in a bin at a Goodwill in Tacoma.

So shoutout to John who sent the physical photos and put the rest on a jump drive. But now have over +250 pictures dating from 1910-1915 taken from all around Puget Sound. These pictures were taken long before Hannah met and married Harry. Obviously, I don’t recognize any of the faces or the places. But if you happen to recognize any familiar backgrounds, leave a comment. Otherwise, just thought I’d share.

John put together a video of his discovery here:
